Mr. Steve Hunter
Greetings Vikings (Viking Nation),
Do you know Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy (formerly known as Northwest High School) has produced doctors, scientists, lawyers, educators, engineers, entrepreneurs who are making a difference throughout the world? Yes, we are! I am the proud principal of Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy, and with great pleasure, I welcome everyone to the 2024-2025 school year.
In 1987, I graduated from Northwest. After high school, I was a student-athlete at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro while pursuing my undergraduate degree in education. I was an English teacher for 17 years while earning National Board Certification in English, becoming the first African American male to receive this distinguished award in North Carolina (2003). During this time, I earned my master’s degree from Cambridge College in educational leadership, which has led me to my current, amazing position as principal at Northwest.
Remember in life, we must be able to adjust and remain flexible in these ever-changing times. I am so proud of my students, staff, and parents for being supportive and patient as we transition into remote learning for the first several months of this school year.
Parents, I want to encourage you to utilize our school website (just Google Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy) as the site/location to learn about important information, school updates, and links for meetings, virtually. As the school year progresses, I look forward to meeting you as we work together to prepare your child for life after high school. If you have any questions, please call me by dialing (252) 586-4125.
Steve A. Hunter, Principal
