Classroom Rules  (Behavior expectations) 

1. Be Polite. - Treat others as you would like to be treated.

2. Earpods, and other electronics are not allowed to be used in the class unless asked by the teacher otherwise.

3. Eatables and drinks are not allowed during class.

4. Be Regular – come to class on time. Late comers will have to carry a note from the teacher whom they claim to be with, during that period. Alternatively, they will stay put with me after the class,  for the same amount of time as when  they came late.

5. Complete and turn in Classwork and Homework. Late turns in work will make you lose a 30% on your grades in that category.

6. Come Prepared to class- with pens, pencils, ruler and notebook (exclusively for math)

7. Respect others - respect people, their feelings and their belongings.

8. Laugh with anyone, but laugh at no one.

9. Be Productive - Be responsible for your own learning.

10. Do not disturb people who are working. - Talking or laughing out loud, moving from one place to the other when you are supposed to be seated and working, amounts to disrupting a class and is non negotiable.

Consequences

1. Late H.W / assignment submission- student will not be awarded more than a 70% score.

2. Retest- students can take a retest to improve their score or make up for a missed test but they will not be awarded more than 70% marks.

3. Failing to follow the "usage of mobile phone" policy in the class - Cheating is an intolerable act in my class. Usage of phones is strictly not allowed unless asked otherwise by the teacher on some occasions. If a student is found using the phone in the class when he/ she is not supposed to, as per the my standing instructions, (or is found using a laptop to engage in activity unrelated to our classroom activity) he / she will get a zero mark for every assignment done during that week. If there is some emergency that requires the student to use the phone, he/she can step out of the class, use the phone and join back after addressing the issue.

4. Although I am sure my students will never have to face these consequences yet           a student failing to adhere to our classroom expectations will be:

1. given one verbal warning.

2. In case (A) did not help, His/her name was written on the board.

3. In case (B) is ineffective- his/ her actions will be reported to the Principal/ counselor and he/ she will be removed from the class.

4. If all the above seem to be ineffective, a mail will be sent to the parents and remedial actions will be decided by the administration.

Grading 

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know a few of the goals for Physics/ STEM students as well as the grading system used to evaluate if your child has met these goals.

By the end of this semester, successful Physics/ STEM students will reflect global citizenship and demonstrate  the ability punctual, calculate an academic grade, follow directions, manage time, pay attention to details, organize, persevere, respect others, take responsibility for every action of theirs including learning, work hard and care about the quality of that work.  

The most important items that your child will hopefully learn this year is that his/her personal success in any endeavor is directly related to his/her effort. and that  "freedom doesn't mean having the right to do anything , freedom means the right to do the correct thing.

         Tests, quizzes, classwork, homework, group work, attitude, participation, class preparation, attention to detail, and attendance are all used to determine a student’s grade. Assignments are graded by points. 

Your child is fully aware of his/her grade at all times because we often take class time to check our grades and have access to the grades at all times through the parent portal.  He/she will be issued a progress report halfway through each nine weeks to be signed by a parent or guardian for a grade. Your child’s accumulated points for a grading period are added at the end of the grading period and are then divided by the total number of possible points. The resulting decimal percentage is then translated into a letter grade according to the following scale:
