Employees receive the State of North Carolina benefits and additional benefits through the Halifax County School system.
- Permanent employees are hired with the expectation of permanent employment to fill a position that is to be permanent if present needs and funds continue.
- Full-time employees are those whose regular work week is the number of hours set as full-time in his or her class of work, but not less than 30 hours per week.
- Part-time employees regularly work at least 20 hours per week, but less than the number of hours set as full time for that class of work.

Health insurance benefits are provided by the State of North Carolina Teachers' and State Employees' Comprehensive Major Medical Plan for full-time permanent employees. Dependent coverage is available.

Full-time permanent employees participate in the State of North Carolina Retirement System. Both the employee and the state contribute to the fund. Employees are vested in the retirement system after 5 years.

Retirement benefits include:
- Monthly benefits at retirement based on salary, age, and years of credit
- Short-term Disability Income after one year of contributing membership service
- Long-term Disability Income after five years of contributing membership service
North Carolina - NC 401(k) Plan
Actively contributing members of the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System are eligible to contribute to the NC 401(k) Plan through Prudential. A 401(k) plan is an employer-sponsored retirement savings program with special tax advantages that allows employees to invest up to 20% of their income for retirement on a tax deferred basis.
