Substitute Teachers & Child Nutrition Workers

  • Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher or child nutrition substitute worker with Halifax County Schools! You must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent to be employed in any position in Halifax County.

    The first step to becoming a substitute teacher is to complete the Effective Teacher Training Class. The course, along with our Substitute Orientation can be taken on-line through App Garden University. If you have already completed the course from a North Carolina Community Colleges across you can can still access the Orientation Course. Once you have completed the courses, you must complete an online application and the paperwork links below to the Human Resource Department. 


    If you already have an active North Carolina Teaching License, you do not have to complete the course.

    Report to The Human Resources Department at Central Office to submit the forms and bring a copy of your high school diploma or transcript, Copy of Effective Teacher Training Certificate or Active North Carolina Teaching License (substitute teachers only), driver's license, social security card and if you are a male 26 or younger, bring a copy of your Selective Service Registration Card. If you can't locate it call 1-847-688-6888 to request a duplicate.
