Innovation in Curriculum and Instruction
Halifax County Schools welcomes new and innovative ideas in curriculum as additional avenues to achieve the goals and objectives of the educational program.
I. Administrators are encouraged to:
- pursue innovative programs.
- take advantage of community resources in order to enhance and enrich the learning process.
- ensure parental involvement in the development and implementation of new programs and plans for innovative projects.
- use community resources, including businesses that can effectively contribute to the advancement of educational goals.
- invite resource persons from the community to help with teaching the prescribed curriculum.
- partner with local businesses to facilitate high school-to-work partnerships for students who have indicated that they are unlikely to seek higher education.
- create local business opportunities for students to complete job shadows, internships, or apprenticeships.
II. Industry Certification and Credentialing
- The district consults with local industries, employers, business advisory councils, and the local workforce development board to identify industry certification and credentials to best meet workforce needs.
III. Other Innovative Pilot Programs
- May be initiated by the administrators of any school with board approval.
- Should be included in the proposed school improvement plan.
- If the pilot program will modify the curriculum, a proposal should first be submitted to the curriculum committee in accordance with policy 3100, Curriculum Development.
- If a school improvement plan is already in effect, school administrators may submit a modified plan for board approval.
- Board approval is required before implementing the proposed plan.
- All pilot projects and educational programs must comply with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Parents and guardians of children in applicable federally funded programs have the right to inspect all instructional materials used in connection with innovative programs. The district shall develop administrative regulations, as necessary, to implement program policy.
